The BAM! 2024 program is here!

Wednesday, 15 May, 2024

The BAM! program is finally online.
You can find it here, divided by days and themes.
🍻 Starting from Friday afternoon,
you can listen to wonderful stories
of distant lands, of hard work, of victories and defeats.
🚵‍♀️ Stories of flat tires at the end of the world,
unexpected friendships, and loves on two wheels.
❤️ You can hear about the wonders around us.
Life stories.
🎪 And then you can participate in workshops,
learn something valuable,
🚴‍♀️ cycle around Mantua and its surroundings,
🍺 have a beer with old or new friends, and, of course,
🎸 Because dancing, even badly,
is a way to celebrate this darn life we’ve been given.
👇👇 👇👇
So, check out the program and get the urge to come to BAM!:
then call a friend and cycle to Mantua,
trying to get lost (which is quite easy).
The rest is propaganda.

At a certain point, everyone, shouting “the sea! the sea!”,
began to run towards the shore
– even the donkeys, caught up in the overwhelming enthusiasm –
throwing down their swords, shields, luggage… everything.
The Anabasis is the story of 10,000 unfortunate Spartan mercenaries
who went to fight in Turkey in 400 BC,
and the moment of the dash when they see the sea and realize they are finally safe
is the most beautiful moment.
Imagine it like this: you are in Greece, 2400 years ago,
your name is Xenophon, you are a wealthy knight
and you are invited to participate in a military expedition to overthrow the Persian throne.
Not a great idea, apparently.

And indeed everything goes wrong and you find yourself fleeing, crossing
Armenia and Turkey to try to get back home.
Xenophon becomes the narrator of that expedition and
his account, simple and beautiful, has come down to us today.
I remember little of my classical studies, but that dash towards the sea,
shouting for joy “θάλασσα! θάλασσα!”, is firmly in my memory.
When you travel by bike,
what is your sea?

that moment or place in front of which
you would start running with the donkeys,
throwing everything to the ground,
shouting for joy?
For me it’s the evening, wherever I am,
because for me it means I’ve arrived,
far from the useless thoughts of daily life,
and I only have to worry about getting myself back in order:
clothes, food, knees, a shower if there is one,
a bit of maintenance.
But it can also be a friend’s house,
a step, the end of a climb, a border, a lake,
or a ship to go beyond, even farther.
Or the sea
θάλασσα θάλασσα

One last great news:

the Sportler stores in Peschiera, Bolzano, and Trento,
during the days of BAM!,
will offer free mechanical assistance for all travelers.
And at Sportler Bike in Peschiera,
on Saturday, June 8th, at 9 am,
there will be breakfast, parking, a BAM! welcome pack,
and a collective ride to Mantua, with a beer halfway.
It will be an unforgettable edition,
as always
a bit popular,
a bit aristocratic.

By the way:
Have you booked your tent spot,
you Greek mercenary you?
This year, after last year’s experience,
we’ve rented some beautiful containers
with bathrooms and showers.
Now we’re poor, but happy.
